Korra doodle! Been utterly frustrated that joint pain has prevented drawing/painting, so today I caved and tried to find gliding, easy-to-grip, joint-friendly mediums. Used a permanent marker, a blue highlighter, and a box of crayons. Hurt my hands more than I was hoping (crayons require a surprising death grip), but hey, at least I vented a bit of pent-up artistic frustration.

Since I’m not doing much art for awhile, have an old Amorra sketch I never posted.
<3 Amorra <3
I haven’t had much time to do art stuff lately due to life and I really miss it, so I did a super-super-super quick doodle of young Amon & Kwan, around the time they started dating in the Love & Corruption universe. Cuties.
(sorry, this is like a month or two late…I am so sorry >_<;;)
Hi, dear Anon! Thank you for considering me an “expert.” I have much to learn, but I will share what I can! :D
First of all, check out this thread on ConceptArt.org. Not only is it inspiring, it’s also extremely informative. That fellow started out with just a basic grasp of art, and within a couple years, had totally surpassed anything I can do. You will probably learn more from that thread than I could ever share, just from his exercises, the comments and his development. A++++ highly recommended reading.
Second of all, here’s something I recommend to all artists at all skill levels: life drawing. There is no more powerful tool than to draw, draw, draw from life. If you can’t get to lifedrawing classes, then things like cafe sketches (hang out at a cafe and draw people), still life (pile together stuff and draw it), pausing movies/videos and drawing what you see, etc. etc. etc. Basically, draw draw draw. Even many artists who do very stylized work start on a foundation of drawing from life, and it often shows in their work.
Third, get people to critique your work. It’s okay if you’re shy about this at first, but honestly it’s the best way to grow. Starting a sketchbook thread on a community like conceptart.org is a great way to get some direction from mentor figures and also suggestions about what to work on.
Fourth, study the work of the masters. You can learn a lot just by trying to deconstruct: “how did they do that??”
And finally, don’t get frustrated if you feel like your work isn’t good enough. There are two things to develop: your internal artistic eye (how you SEE and PERCEIVE the world around you and art itself), and your hand-to-eye coordination (actually drawing/painting). Your eye is always what takes a big jump forward when you’re on the cusp of improvement, and it takes your hand awhile to catch up. If you go through phases where your art looks like utter shit to you, that’s a good thing. That’s when growth happens, as your skill level catches up to your eye. If you get to a point where you can’t see what to improve, that’s where it’s good to have people critique your work and help you grow that artistic eye.
Not sure if this is making any sense :), and as I’m typing this, I’m realizing it’s time for me to push my art ahead a bit, too. Maybe reopen my CA.org sketchbook. Hmmm. Thanks, Anon, for the inspiration!
I’m not sure if this is what you were looking for or not, but I’m happy to answer any questions I can, if you have others. :D <3
This was my reference doodle for a recent chapter of Love & Corruption. Yes, he looks dorky and harmless, but that’s kind of the point. ;)
I am raging from frustrating health news today, so I decided to vent my rage with a Korra so colourful and sparkly that it would almost be sarcastic.
I feel a tiny bit better.

Thanks to those folks who came out to the livestream! Here’s the WIP… To be continued!
(I tried to do a complex perspective drawing, and NOPE TOO DRUGGED, so Amorra kisses it is…)
